The Healthy Block Initiative is a BBC partnership with St. Matthew’s New Life UMC, community associations, and several other churches in the Barclay and Greenmount communities to annually bring wholeness to the 400 block of E. 23rd Street. Each year, this initiative is presented to the community in the form of a block party. The block party address four areas of concern of the community, a safe place for children/youth be in community with others, physical health of individuals, lack of healthy whole food in the community, and blight in the community.
